Medivac

Skytraders Antarctic Air Services provide a critical Medivac capability to the most hostile and remote location on the face of the earth.

The importance of this facility was highlighted in the 2009/10 season when Skytraders provided air services to enable the evacuation of 4 foreign expeditioners.

Two of these medivac operations required the services of both the C212 and A319 aircraft. In the first instance a critical patient was rushed to Hobart to receive life saving medical care. In the other situation, a patient was evacuated with a potentially terminal condition requiring urgent medical attention. In both of these cases the patients were located in some of the most remote locations on the Antarctic continent. The coordination of crew and flight schedules for both aircraft was critical to offering an expeditious transfer of patients within the small operational windows available.

In the final medical evacuation for the 09/10 season the A319 was utilized to transport two patients requiring medical attention to Christchurch.
