Airbus 319 CJ
Skytraders A319 CJ provides the critical link between Australia’s Antarctic Territory and the Australian Antarctic Division’s base in Hobart. The aircraft operates a weekly service throughout the Austral Summer and provides additional on demand services, as necessity requires.
The A319 CJ is a long range corporate jet developed on the platform of the A319 airliner. The A319CJ was designed to offer the market a superior and more flexible aircraft than the Boeing Business Jet and dedicated long range corporate jets such as the Bombardier Global Express and Gulfstream V.
The A319 shares Airbus' common advanced six screen EFIS flight deck with sidestick controllers, plus fly-by-wire flight controls. Specially fitted with four ultra long-range tanks and the most sophisticated navigation systems the aircraft can fly up to approximately 5,600 nautical miles with standard reserves. This means travel from Australia to Europe with just one stop or non-stop from Australia to Asia and the Middle East. The exceptional long range fuel tankage and high maximum landing weights of the A319 combine with the on-board auxiliary power unit to facilitate flights into airports which lack any form of ground facilities. The A319CJ is fitted with integral air-stairs increasing the self reliance of remote operations. This provides added capability to the aircraft for emergency and medivac operations in support of humanitarian efforts.
The A319CJ 's containerized cargo hold means that the CJ's auxiliary fuel tanks can be easily loaded and unloaded, giving the flexibility to reconfigure the aircraft for varying payload/range requirements. In its normal operating capacity the aircraft is configured for flights to and from the Wilkins runway, which has been carved from a glacial site at a remote location in the Australian Antarctic Territory.
Outside of Antarctic operations the A319 is available for private charter. Skytraders A319CJ AOC grants approval for the carriage of Passengers and Cargo in Australia, outside Australia and into and out of Australia. It is approved for Aerial Work Operations over then same geographic area for Aerial Photography, Aerial Spotting, Ambulance Functions, Search and Rescue and Surveillance.
